What is the Crochet marketplace?

The Crochet App marketplace lets independent designers sell their patterns inside the Crochet app. You write or import a pattern in our free creator console, our team reviews it, AI translates it into 9 languages, and it's listed in the app's Community tab, where 800,000+ crafters can find it. Each copy opens only in the buyer's account, so there's no PDF to leak. You set the price, or share it for free, and keep about 80% of every paid sale.

For creators

Publish from a web console, set a price or make it free, and follow every sale on your Earnings page. Your name, photo and links appear on every pattern you publish.

For crafters

Crafters find your pattern in the Community tab, preview it and buy it once. It stays in their account and works offline, with step-by-step instructions, a row counter and stitch guides.

What we take care of

Secure checkout, sales tax and VAT, refunds, translation into 9 languages, delivery to buyers on iPhone and Android, and monthly payouts through Stripe. You focus on designing.

Why sell on Crochet

No file to leak

Buyers never download a PDF. Your pattern unlocks only in the account that paid for it, so there's nothing to forward, re-upload or post on a file-sharing site. Nobody can stop a determined person retyping a pattern by hand, but without a file, the easy way to copy it is gone.

Keep about 80% of your price

Sell a $5 pattern to a US buyer and you earn $3.96. Card fees come off first, then we keep 12.5% of the rest. Joining and listing are free, and there's no monthly fee.

Translated into 9 languages

The Crochet app speaks English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Swedish and Turkish. Every approved pattern is translated into all nine automatically with AI, at no cost to you, so crafters can follow it in their own language.

Reach 800,000+ crafters

Your patterns are listed in the Community tab of an app used by more than 800,000 crocheters on iPhone and Android: people who already use the app to follow patterns step by step.

A free creator console

Import a PDF you already have and AI turns it into an interactive draft in about a minute, ready for you to check and polish. Or write one from scratch. Pick yarns from our catalogue and track every sale on the Earnings page.

Keep your brand and your rights

Your patterns stay yours. Every one carries your author profile, with your photo, bio and links, so crafters can find and follow your work.

Step by step: from idea to first sale

Here's the whole process, from first sign-in to first payout. Everything happens in the creator console, a web tool you sign in to with your Crochet app account. It works best on a computer.

  1. Creator console

Sign up with your Crochet account

Open the creator console and sign in with the same account you use in the Crochet app: email, Google, Apple or Facebook.

    • No account yet? Download the Crochet app and create a free account first. Guest accounts can't be used.
    • Already in the app? Tap Profile → Become a creator to get the console link, then open it on a computer.
    • Read and accept the creator agreement and terms of service, and you're in.
  2. Creator console

    Finish your creator setup

Follow the “Your creator setup” checklist on the console home page.

    • Fill in your author profile: name, email, a short description, a photo and at least one link. Crafters see it next to your patterns.
    • Choose your payout country, which is where we'll pay you. Payouts are available in 33 countries (listed under What you earn).
    • Set up payouts: Stripe's secure onboarding verifies your identity and collects your bank details. Once Stripe confirms your account, you can start creating patterns, free or paid.
  3. Creator console

    Create your pattern

Start from scratch with Create, or bring a pattern you've already written.

    • Import a PDF: our AI reads it and builds a draft in about a minute (up to 20 imports a month, 20 MB per file). Check the draft carefully, since AI can misread stitch counts or abbreviations.
    • Work through the pattern checklist: general information, images, yarns, materials, author information and instructions.
    • Pick yarns from the built-in yarn catalogue and add clear photos, since they're the first thing crafters see.
  4. Creator console

    Set your price

New patterns are free by default. To charge for one, pick a price from $0.99 to $9.99.

    • Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT is added on top at checkout, so it never comes out of your price.
    • Card fees include a fixed amount per payment, so at the lowest prices a bigger share of each sale goes to fees.
    • Free patterns are a good way to build a following before you publish paid ones.
    • Your payout setup needs to be finished before you can submit any pattern, even a free one.
  5. Creator console

    Submit for review

Open My patterns and tap Submit for review.

    • For now, our team reviews every pattern by hand before it goes live, checking that it's your own original work and follows our content guidelines. Most patterns are reviewed within 3 days. You can have up to 5 patterns in review at a time.
    • If something needs fixing, you'll see the reason. Update the pattern and submit it again.
    • Editing a live pattern sends the new version to review, and the current version stays on sale in the meantime.
  6. Automatic

    Go live in the app

Once approved, your pattern appears in the Community tab of the Crochet app.

    • Our AI agent translates it into all 9 app languages.
    • Crafters preview it and buy it through a secure checkout. It stays in their account and opens only there, even offline.
    • Your author profile appears under About the author on every pattern.
  7. Creator console

    Get paid

Follow every sale on your Earnings page and get paid monthly through Stripe.

    • Each sale clears after 24 hours, then it becomes available for the next payout.
    • Once a month, available balances of $25 or more are paid out to the bank account you connected through Stripe.
    • Smaller balances roll over to the next month, so nothing is lost.

What you earn

No sign-up fees, listing fees or monthly fees. We only earn when you make a paid sale, and here's exactly how much.

~80%

of your price is yours, after card fees and our share

How it works: tax is added on top of your price, card fees come off, and we keep 12.5% of what's left. You get the other 87.5%. Our share covers translation, hosting, payment handling and keeping the app running.

Example: a $5.00 pattern bought in the US

Pattern price$5.00
Card payment fees−$0.47
Platform share (12.5% of $4.53)−$0.57
You earn$3.96

Some US states add sales tax on top at checkout. It's paid by the buyer and doesn't come out of your price. With a European card, card fees are lower and you'd earn about $4.02.

24-hour hold

New sales clear after 24 hours, then become available for the next payout.

Monthly payouts

Available earnings are paid out once a month.

$25 minimum

Balances under $25 roll over to the next month, so nothing is lost.

Paid by Stripe

You connect your bank account through Stripe during setup, before your first pattern. Stripe verifies your identity and sends your payouts.

Tax and refunds handled

We collect sales tax and VAT and handle buyer refunds. A refunded sale is removed from your earnings, or deducted from a later payout if it was already paid.

33 countries

Payouts are available in the US, Canada, the UK, Switzerland and the European Economic Area (except Iceland).

Is Crochet right for you?

Selling inside an app works differently from selling a PDF. Here's what to expect before you start.

A good fit if…

  • You want your patterns to stop circulating for free. There's no PDF to copy, forward or upload: each pattern opens only in the buyer's account.
  • You'd like crafters to read your patterns in 9 languages without paying for translation.
  • Your patterns suit a price between $0.99 and $9.99.
  • You'd rather not deal with tax, VAT or refunds yourself.

Good to know

  • Buyers need the Crochet app on iPhone or Android to open your pattern.
  • Every pattern is reviewed by hand before it goes live.
  • Your pattern's translations are made automatically by AI.
  • Before your first pattern, even a free one, you set up payouts with Stripe, which verifies your identity and bank details.
  • Earnings are paid monthly once your balance reaches $25.
